Hi, I’m Urso. We started off in San Diego and ate the hotel breakfast. I gulped down the waffles and the sausages. Primo and Yoni devoured pancakes. We than headed to Joshua Tree. While Jack drove, we played casual chess and read books. We started a round of the alphabet game and made it to J ( for joshua tree).
When we got there I got so much water from the visitors center, we nearly drowned! I said: “it will weigh a lot but is worth it.” Once we started hiking it turns out I was right. It was hot, dry and dusty. It smelled of dry earth and sage. The sun broiled us. We saw some joshua trees, the park’s namesake. Of course, they aren’t actually trees; they are succulents! We were hiking along when we spied a bighorn sheep with a solar-powered GPS collar. It was spooked when it saw us. After it ran away, I said: “ wow”.
We decided to hike back. On the way, we sighted a yucca moth. I wanted to watch it pollinate a joshua tree for a while, but we were starting to sizzle (not literally). We admired the joshua trees some more. We gulped so much water we almost exploded (NOT LITERALLY!) and headed back.
After lunch, we went on another hike, this time to Skull Rock. First, we got more water. It was even hotter!!! We walked for a while on the dusty trail before we decided to take a break. We found a shady spot under a rock. I was about to sit back when I heard a rattle. I turned around and…a rattlesnake!!!! I stepped back! I got Primo and Yoni. When they wanted to go back, the rattlesnake was not there. They didn't believe me. Just then we heard a rattle and it crawled back out. They were shocked. I said: “do you believe me? “ They did. We nervously walked back. At the visitor center, I found out it was a Red Diamond Rattlesnake.
Primo asked: “do you want to go horseback riding?” Me and yoni agreed. I got a brown horse. Primo befriended a gray horse. Yoni was suspicious of his white horse. He thought it looked a trickster. But he eventually trusted it. I was nervous at first because the brown horse was speedy but then I enjoyed the ride.
After the ride, we drove to Death Valley NP. We held a miniature chess tournament in the RV. After that we talked to Jack (our driver). Soon, we were at Death Valley. If we were broiled before, now we were now char-broiled (NOT LITERALLY!!!!)!
We set up our campsite and ate dinner. A raven tried to snatch Yoni’s fork but Jack scared it off. After that we stargazed before bed. Everyone saw shooting stars but Jack. Primo, Yoni and Jack stayed up late, but I went to bed. I was pretty content but a bit jumpy from the rattlesnake. I must sign off now as I am starting to drea… zzzzzzzz What is that pineapple doing? zzzz
