Hi, I’m Urso and I won’t leave your side today!
I groggily tried multiple methods of waking Yoni and Primo before succeeding. We stumbled to The Bagel Cafe where I ate greasy latkes. Then we jumped in the camper and started the long, hot drive to the Grand Canyon. It may have been four hours but it sure felt like 24. I was looking out the window when I saw a giant statue of Santa Claus. Turns out, we were passing through a Christmas ghost town! What’s funny is that Santa Claus is supposed to live in the North Pole, not in a desert!
We finally arrived at the Grand Canyon. I didn’t want to peak over the edge because I didn't want to become dizzy and fall so I still have no idea what it looks like except from the photos and videos I have seen. We needed to eat a gargantuan amount of food before we hiked so we had lunch at El Tovar lodge. I had the Traditional Navajo Taco which is “Fresh made Fry-Bread with Ground Beef , Pinto & Black Bean Chili w Shredded Cheddar, Red Onion, Tomato, Chopped Lettuce Guacamole, Sour Cream, and Fresh Salsa”.
We got 3 gallons of water and headed out to the Grandview Trail. We spotted a wild potato (Solanum jamesii). Primo wanted to devour it but that is illegal except for members of the 11 native american tribes that have lived there for about 10,500 years. As we hiked we kept seeing rusty tools and equipment. These came from old copper mines. It is illegal to take any, but we didn't even want to take them because a tetanus shot would hinder our travel plans. Yoni kicked a stone and a bark scorpion skittered out. It has the most venomous scorpion sting in North America. We speed walked away.
We went to the Yavapai Geology Museum. When we looked at the model of the Grand Canyon, I noticed slopes which are made of softer rock eroding and harder rock eroding to form cliffs. I bought a Grand Canyon National Park Token Set.
We went to Maswik Food Court for supper. I hungrily shoveled down non-Pueblo tacos. Afterwards, we went to the campgrounds to sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Oh! I've been drooling on my notebook. The ink is blurring.
